Derrick Club Wedding

Derrick Club Wedding

Early Fall 2016 saw us photographing Kaitlyn & Roman’s vintage elegance wedding at Derrick Club. After their stylish engagement session in January, we knew that we were in for a visual treat for their Edmonton Fall wedding.

They did not disappoint! Kaitlyn & Roman chose to have a first look and then, their bridal party portraits before their Jewish Ceremony. After touring Edmonton with them and their bridal party in their limousine, we headed to the Derrick Club to witness their Ketubah signing before they had their ceremony under their custom-designed Chuppah outdoors.

When they were announced into their reception, they and their guests went straight into the Horah dance with much hilarity and love. Speeches followed whilst delicious food catered by the Derrick Club was served.

Their first dance song was one by Elvis, (much to Adrian’s delight as he’s a massive Elvis fan!) before they cut their wedding cake. Congratulations again, Kaitlyn & Roman on your wedding. Thanks for choosing FO Photography!

kaitlyn-roman-wedding-album-32 months later, Kaitlyn & Roman received their beautiful wedding album from FO Photography. Roman said via email: “Thank you to both you and Adrian for doing such a wonderful job with our wedding.”

From Kaitlyn & Roman:

How did you meet?
Roman and I met on an online dating website, we messaged and Facetimed for four months before meeting in person.
Please tell us about your proposal.
Our proposal took place in the Riviera Maya, Mexico at the Secrets Capri Resort. Midway through our trip, we reserved a table to watch one of the shows they performed weekly. We watched the show from the best table and have a wonderful meal and shared a bottle of wine. After the show was over, we went for a walk along the beach and then we walked out to the end of the pier and that is when he asked me to spend the rest of our lives together. I told him right away not to take out the ring because I was scared to drop it between the wood planks into the ocean so we walked back to the beach and he put it on my finger after we were safely away from any large body of water. Then we walked back to our room and he had the resort staff decorate our room and leave chocolate-covered strawberries. It was a night I will never forget.
What’s the engagement ring cut? Round
What unique details did you have on your wedding day? Our personalized custom kippahs for our male guests to wear, traditional Russian appetizers prior to our 3-course meal and Russian desserts in addition to our cake and cupcakes.
What was your favorite detail of planning your wedding day? I would say the cake tasting was one of my favorite details to plan simply because my husband and I got to go and try a bunch of different types of cake and spend time together.
How did you pick your wedding colors? I chose 3 sets of colors I thought were pretty and then I asked Roman to choose which set he liked best.
How would you describe your wedding? Vintage Elegance
Number of guests? 125
Where did you find the most wedding inspiration that was helpful in planning your event? I looked at online publications, such as weddingwire, theknot and blush for ideals.
What website helped you the most in planning your event? I would say that theknot.com was the most helpful in keeping me organized while planning my wedding. I purchased the wedding planner binder and used their online website and tools to keep track of my guest list and budget.
What magazine helped you find inspiration the most? Blush
What was your first dance song? Who sang it? Can’t Help Falling in Love by Elvis Presley
If your wedding had any DIY elements
a.    Can you share with us what inspired you and how you made some of the items from your special day? I made the name cards for each place setting because they had to be color coordinated based on the entrees guest chose. I also made the board for our seating chart which was on an easel at the guest sign in table.
b.    What are some tips you have for anyone currently planning their wedding day?
I would highly recommend visiting a bookstore to purchase a book that outlines details for planning a wedding. It not only helps with the timeline of when things should be booked but provides the basics of what is needed and how to tackle planning for your big day. Little details can easily be over looked or forgotten but with a quality wedding planner book nothing is left up to chance and it can be an affordable option for brides looking to plan their own wedding without experience in wedding coordination. If you aren’t organized or it is difficult making time to do research on vendors and visiting them I would recommend a wedding coordinator. Meet with the coordinator and make sure to ask for a portfolio of previous weddings they participated in and a detailed description of the duties they are willing to perform and have a signed contract with the duties outlined.
