The 17th Annual Africa Day Gala was an extraordinary evening celebrating the excellence, culture, and community of African descent.
The festivities commenced with MC Joannie Fogue introducing Gratitude, who delivered a stirring performance of both the Canadian and African anthems. City Manager Eddie Robar then took the stage with a sincere address, emphasizing Edmonton’s dedication to cultural diversity and the City’s continuous efforts in promoting anti-racism.
In line with this year’s inspiring theme, “Inspiring the Future,” Dr. Edna Wakene, Chair of the Africa Centre Board, and Sam Juru, Executive Director, shared thrilling updates on the African Multicultural Community Centre (AMCC)—a groundbreaking initiative that has been years in the making and marks a significant milestone for our community.
The keynote message from NotJustYou Founder, Ufuoma Muwhen, “There’s pain in the purpose—your dark moments are your badges of honour,” resonated deeply with guests. Her words reminded us that healing begins when we honor our past and strive for a brighter future together.
This evening was a celebration of connection, joy, and purpose.
